01Why Most Mattress Lists Can't Be Trusted

The mattress category has a pay-to-play problem. A brand sponsors a review site, climbs to the top of its "best mattress" roundup, and the reader never finds out. The ranking looks objective. It isn't. We built this site because we got tired of that system and wanted somewhere that answered a simple question honestly: is this brand actually worth buying?

Mattresses are already confusing to shop for. Overlapping brand names, identical foam layers sold under twenty different labels, "lifetime warranties" with pages of fine print buried in the listing. Readers deserve a site that names that confusion plainly and cuts through it, not one that adds another layer of disguised promotion on top.

No brand has ever paid to be covered here. Our Recommended badge means something because our Skip badge also means something. We name weak brands, with specific reasons, because that's what makes the honest verdicts useful.

02How We Rate Every Mattress Brand

Every brand review on this site follows the same sequence. We don't skip steps for brands with large catalogs or fill in gaps with guesses for brands with thin listings. Here's the exact process, in order:

  1. Amazon sales and review data for every product the brand sells in this category. We look at estimated sales volume, star ratings, and review counts across the brand's full lineup, not just its flagship model. A brand that sells well on one SKU but has weak numbers across the rest of its line gets scored on the whole picture.
  2. The brand's Amazon listings, read in full. Every model, size option, material description, foam spec, coil count, and warranty term the brand states in its own product pages. We don't paraphrase or assume. If the listing says CertiPUR-US certified foam, we note it. If the listing doesn't mention fiberglass in the fire barrier, we note that too.
  3. Search results and buyer questions for the brand and the category. What shoppers actually ask when they search for a mattress or a specific brand tells us where real confusion and real complaints live. Questions about off-gassing, edge support, firmness feel, and return policies show up differently across brands, and we read that signal for every one we score.
  4. Outside quotes, used only when verified word for word. If a finding from an independent source appears on a brand page, we checked it against the original. We don't summarize from memory or borrow conclusions from other review sites. If we can't verify it, it doesn't appear.
  5. A six-criteria score that sets the badge. Each brand is scored on Product Quality, Value for Money, Product Range, Customer Feedback, Warranty & Support, and Brand Trust. Each criterion gets a rating of Strong (2 points), Average (1 point), Weak (0 points), or Limited data (excluded from the count). The badge is computed by a fixed rule: 66% or more of possible points earns Recommended, 40% or more earns Cautious, below that earns Skip. The rule doesn't bend for brands we like or dislike.
  6. The questions every mattress buyer asks, answered for this brand. Every brand page addresses the handful of things shoppers need to know before buying in this category: how the construction actually feels for different sleep positions, what the warranty really covers, whether off-gassing complaints show up in buyer questions, and how the brand's edge support and motion isolation hold up against comparable beds.
Criterion What it means for mattresses
Product Quality The materials and specs the listings state, foam density, coil construction, certifications, and the star ratings across the line
Value for Money What the line offers relative to other brands in the same tier: foam layers, size options, warranty length, and construction quality
Product Range How many models, firmness options, and sizes the brand offers, and whether the lineup addresses different sleep positions and body types
Customer Feedback Star ratings and review counts per model, and the specific praise and complaints that surface in buyer questions and search results
Warranty & Support The warranty terms stated in the listing, and what buyer questions and search results indicate about how the brand handles claims
Brand Trust Consistency of sales across the catalog, accuracy of listing claims, and how the brand shows up when buyers search for it by name

03Where Our Data Actually Comes From

  • Amazon sales and review data across the brand's full catalog. This tells us which models buyers actually purchase and return to, which star ratings hold up across a large review pool versus which rest on a handful of early reviews, and where complaints concentrate within a lineup.
  • The brand's own Amazon product descriptions. Features, materials, foam specs, firmness options, size availability, and warranty terms as the brand itself states them. This is the brand's claim on the record, and we treat it as such.
  • Search results for the brand and the category. What surfaces when shoppers look up a brand name or a mattress type reveals independent coverage, recurring buyer concerns, and how the brand is talked about outside its own listings.
  • Buyer questions in the category. The questions shoppers ask about specific mattresses, off-gassing, firmness feel, edge support, fiberglass in fire barriers, return logistics, show us where real uncertainty lives and what a brand review needs to address.
  • Outside quotes, verified word for word before use. We check every quote against its source before putting it on a brand page. If we can't verify the original, the quote doesn't appear. That constraint keeps the data honest and keeps us from borrowing other sites' conclusions as our own.

04How This Site Makes Money

We earn an Amazon Associates commission when a reader clicks a link on this site and makes a qualifying purchase. The commission comes from Amazon, not from the brand being linked. The reader's price doesn't change.

That structure creates one real limitation worth naming: sometimes the brand we rate highest for a given buyer earns us a smaller commission, or none at all, and we still rank it first. The badge reflects the six-criteria score, not the affiliate math. We'd rather send you to the right mattress and earn nothing than send you to the wrong one and earn a cut.

Brands cannot buy placement, pay for a higher badge, or purchase coverage on this site. If a brand appears here, it's because we decided to cover it, not because anyone paid us to.

05What We Refuse to Do

No sponsored placements

A brand cannot pay to appear on this site, appear higher in our rankings, or be featured on any section of a page. Every brand that appears here was chosen by our editorial team.

No pay-to-play ranking

The badge on a brand card, Recommended, Cautious, or Skip, is computed from six scored criteria by a fixed rule. We don't adjust verdicts based on commercial relationships, affiliate earnings, or brand outreach.

Manufacturers cannot edit or veto a verdict

Brands are not shown their scores before publication and have no path to request changes. If a brand contacts us about a verdict, we re-read the listings and rerun the score. The method decides the outcome, not the conversation.

No tests we didn't run

We don't claim to have purchased or slept on mattresses, run pressure-mapping tests, measured off-gassing with instruments, or tracked reviews over months. Our method is what's described on this page, Amazon data, listing analysis, search results, buyer questions, and verified outside quotes. We state exactly what we read and score, nothing more.

06How We Keep Ratings Current and Honest

A brand's score on this site reflects the data as of the last time we read it. When a brand's Amazon listings, sales data, or review picture changes materially, we reread everything and recompute the score. There's no fixed publication calendar. A review is updated when the underlying data warrants it, not on a schedule designed to look active.

When data is thin, we say so. A criterion scored as Limited data is left out of the point count rather than estimated. A brand with strong listings but almost no review history will show that gap in its score, not have it smoothed over with an Average rating it didn't earn.

Errors happen, and we want to know about them. If you find a fact on this site that conflicts with what a listing actually states, or a quote that doesn't match its source, email us at [email protected] and we'll check it against the original. Verified corrections go up without a grace period.

07The Team Behind These Reviews

Mattressesreviewer.com runs on three functions: research, data, and editorial. The research function identifies which brands to cover and reads the Amazon listings, buyer questions, and search results that feed every review. The data function runs the six-criteria scoring and checks that the badge rule is applied consistently across every brand. The editorial function writes the verdicts, decides how findings are framed, and holds final responsibility for what appears on the page.

No one on this team is named in a brand review, because the method is what we're accountable to, not any individual's reputation. We don't invent author bios, cite fictional testers, or attach personal stories to verdicts we derived from listing data. The authority here comes from applying the same process to every brand, showing the scores, and letting the method speak.

The standard we hold ourselves to is simple: if a reader followed our method themselves, starting from the same Amazon data and the same listings, they should reach roughly the same verdict. Anything we couldn't replicate that way doesn't belong in a review.
